About TEFL Certification Programs
To become an ESL teacher you may need a TEFL certificate, especially if you are not a native speaker or you have no Bachelor degree. In order to get an English teaching job, there are two key qualifications that are internationally recognized – the Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and the Trinity CertTESOL (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). These courses are generally similar in design and equally well regarded by employers.
Normally, a TEFL course lasts around 100 hours including assessed teaching practice. A TEFL course will teach you how to plan lessons and activities, choose materials and be confident in front of the class. As well as the Cambridge CELTA and the Trinity CertTESOL, there are other equivalent TEFL courses that also provide certification. Many of these offer similar four-week courses and are accredited by various universities worldwide. However, while some of these are very reliable, others may not be.
How to Choose a Reliable Certification Program?
If you have enough time and money, take a CELTA or CertTESOL certification course. These courses are usually well organized and are recognized all over the world. If you do not have sufficient time or money, or these courses are not available in your location, you should seek out an alternative accredited course. When choosing a course you should always consider:
– Does the course have accreditation from a university or world famous
– What other people think about this TEFL program? Search for reviews.
– What kind of certificate will I receive at the end of the course?
– What potential employers think of this course?
